The Glen Ord distillery was founded in 1838 by Thomas Mackenzie in the 'Black Isle' area north of Inverness. The distillery takes its name from 'The Ord', a plain 15 miles north of Inverness. Many castles of the clan Mackenzie can be found in the area, including Kintail, Brahan and Eilean Donan. The clan has Celtic origins (as opposed to Norman) and possibly came to Scotland from Ireland somewhere in the 12th century. Immediately after construction Thomas Mackenzie licensed ....
